The practice focuses on the rights of students with disabilities pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and other related issues. Litigated disputes involve all special education matters, including identification, referral, classification, program, placement, and related services. Theodore Sussan began as a general practitioner 37 years ago, but was drawn to special education issues in 1975 because of personal circumstances involving his autistic son. Out of necessity he has developed an in depth knowledge of the special education rights of school aged children between the ages of three and twenty one.
Staci Greenwald was a special education teacher before attending law school. She has a degree in speech pathology, and is a Certified Teacher of the Handicapped. Her contributions to the firm deal with representation of the disabled in various forums, from the Office of Administrative Law to the Federal Courts. Besides special education issues, she offers advocacy in matters involving the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and guardianship.
Jayne Wesler is admitted in New Jersey and also is a licensed clinical social worker who has worked as a psychotherapist and child study team member, and is experienced in the field of special education and mental health. Ms. Wesler earned her Masters in Social Work from New York University School of Social Work in New York City and graduated from Georgian Court College with a Bachelors of Social Work, Summa Cum Laude. She was awarded a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law. Lenore Boyarin Laracuente, Esq., is admitted in both New Jersey and New York. While at Ithaca College she was awarded an M.S. in Speech Pathology and Audiology, and while at Brooklyn College earned a B.S. cum laude in Education and Speech Pathology. New York Law School, J.D., cum laude, 1985. She served as Deputy Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Constance Baker Motley United States District Court for the Southern District of New York 1986-1987 Lori M. Gaines, Esq., is admitted in both New Jersey and New York. She attended New York University , graduating in 1998, Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Special Education; Columbia University, Teachers College 1999, Summa Cum Laude, M.A. Teaching Students with Learning Disabilities; Certified Special Education Teacher in New Jersey, New York and California. She graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2004, receiving, Cum Laude, her J.D. degree. These attorneys have invested hundreds of hours in helping parent groups, educators, learning consultants, Judges and other lawyers interested in keeping abreast of this quickly changing area of law.
